KOKAB QURESHI - A SHORT PROFILE

Home

I was born in Pakistan but was brought up in the United Arab Emirates, as my parents have been living in this country for well over a quarter of a century I completed my primary and secondary education from a renowned school in Abu Dhabi. After completing my "A" level from Abu Dhabi, I pursued my remaining education in United Kingdom. I received an honours degree in Accounting and Financial Management from the University of Buckingham, England, UK. I then decided to follow my father's footsteps and decided to become a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW). Many friends scared me off from choosing CA as a profession as, in our part of the world, it is considered an uphill task and primarily a fiefdom of males. However, my father firmly supported me in my endeavor to fulfill my childhood ambition. Kokab Qureshi

Anyway, with the grace of God I managed to achieve the task of passing the required examinations well within the prescribed period of three years. The partners of Ernst & Young, Middle East head office, have very graciously acknowledged my being the very first CA student to have qualified as a Chartered Accountant in the Gulf, of course this was immediately followed by attractive financial rewards and hierarchical promotion to indicate my employers' appreciation. I am now working as a Senior Accountant in Ernst and Young (Audit Department) in Abu Dhabi. I intend to apply for the membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Pakistan too.

Other than concentrating on my professional activities, my interests include reading autobiographies of successful people and taking part in social services for lesser fortunate people of our society. I had been the treasurer of the "Pakistani" and the "Islamic society" of the University of Buckingham and had played an effective role in making these societies more meaningful and purposeful to promote as much as possible our way of life, in the UK.

I thank God for the opportunities which He has bestowed upon me, I'd also like to thank my parents who have guided me through every step and who have always been very supportive and a source of inspiration for me, and my two other sisters who are currently pursuing the same discipline in UK.

I am pretty satisfied with my achievements to date.
